Agri specialists urge water conservation

DALBANDIN:

Agriculture specialists have urged farmers to conserve water by planting crops and trees with minimum water and adopt the trickle irrigation system.
A seminar in this regard was conducted by Islamic Relief (IR) Balochistan with the collaboration of Agriculture Extension Department at Dalbandin on Monday.
The seminar was attended by farmers and officials of public and private sector organisations.
Addressing the participants, Agriculture Research Council Balochistan’s Director General Abdul Hannan, Deputy Director Abdullah Baloch and Scientific Officer Javed Ahmed said 70 to 80 per cent water was wasted due to those plants and crops that consume much more water with low benefits besides mismanagement by the growers.
They stressed upon the need of spreading awareness and formulation of a water act following a proper policy in this regard. “If this matter was not taken seriously then our upcoming generations might face an acute water shortage.”
The speakers warned that growers must be consulted before construction of a dam. IR Balochistan’s area manager Essa Tahir Sanjrani, Agriculture Extension Department Chagai’s Deputy Director Zahoor Ahmed Shah and few others also shared their experience during the seminar.
