Army rescues stranded people in Gwadar

Army troops rushed to the rescue of stranded people in low lying areas of Balochistan’s Gwadar district on Sunday after the area witnessed urban flooding over the weekend due to heavy winds, rains and thunderstorm, said the military’s media wing.
According to the InterServices Public Relations (ISPR), accumulated stagnant water posed extreme problems for the local population of Gwadar.
“Army troops immediately assisted civil administration in rescue and relief efforts including dewatering of various areas and shifting people stranded in water through boats,” the ISPR said.
“Rescue efforts along Coastal Highway, Pasni and Jiwani are also being conducted including traffic management at locations where infrastructure is damaged due to hill torrents.” It is pertinent to note that Pakistan Coast Guards has successfully conducted rescue operations of stranded and capsized civil launches and boats in collaboration with local fishermen.
Troops in Jiwani, Paishukan and small Jetties are assisting the locals in moving their boats to the safer locations. On the other hand, Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal directed to provide immediate relief to the people affected by the recent torrential rains in Gwadar and Pasni. “Financial packages will be arranged,” he said, adding that the district administration and Provincial Disaster Management Authority have been instructed to intensify the relief activities in the storm affected areas.
The CM further said immediate relief should be ensured to the people.
