Censor Board takes notice of ‘Pathaan’ screening

Sindh Board of Film Censors Chairman Khalid Bin Shaheen took notice of the illegal screening of the Indian film Pathaan in Karachi.
The board issued a statement saying that it had learned through social media that an organisation called Fireworks Events had organised a public screening of the Indian film in DHA on February 4.
The company also booked the tickets for the film.
The statement added that no private party or individual has the right to organise a public screening of any film at the public or private level unless the film has been issued a formal permit for public exhibition.
Shaheen said that Section 4 [10] of the Sindh Motion Pictures Act 2011 regulates such exhibitions of a film, and no one can do so without the Board’s approval.
The notice warned the company of punitive action if it was found violating the provisions of the said Act.
The violation will be punishable under Section 18 [1], which states that in case of an illegal exhibition of any film not certified by the Board could result in imprisonment for three years or a penalty of Rs100,000.
