Police arrest three cops, book ‘blackmailers’

Police registered cases against seven members of a gang of blackmailers in the city.
Reportedly, the suspects included a woman and four policemen. They would allegedly lure men on the pretext of marriage and extort money.
On the day of the incident, the gang allegedly kidnapped two men and extorted Rs200,000 from them.
Police registered a case under various sections against seven accused, including four policemen and three other persons, arrested three policemen and launched raids to nab the remaining accused.
According to the police report, a case had been registered by Abid Hussain, son of Muhammad Fazil, a resident of Abdullahwala Bridge, in Madina Town police station which stated that he used to sell and buy property.
He had an old friendship with Mohammad Amin, son of Aslam.

On October 7, the complainant received a call from his friend Amin that he and his friend Anwar Ali, son of Habib, resident of Chowk Azam Layyah, were lured by Shumaila Bibi, a resident of Dhadiwala, to marry him and that he was allegedly kidnapped by police personnel, residents of Bajwa Chowk, Ghulam Muhammadabad Asad Ali, son of Shehzad, Naveed, Mohammad Asif, Rashid, resident of 66GB, and seven others.
The complainant told police that the suspect told him to come quickly to Tezab Mill Chowk with an amount of Rs250,000. Later, Amin reportedly told the complainant that the suspect Shumaila had lured him with the promise of marriage and called him at Tezab Mill Chowk where police personnel Asad Ali, Naveed, Asif and Rashid, had held the victims hostage until they received extortion money.
The accused also took the victim’s mobile phone, Rs20,000 cash and a motorcycle. After the allegations were proved in the inquiry, police registered a case under the provisions of Sections 155C-384-342 PPC against seven accused including the policemen involved.
